02:25 pm - HFS+ recovery software?
I needs some software to recover an HFS+ volume (actually 3) on a HD that's going south. I would be willing to pay real money for software, but nothing I've tried has been able to recover anything so far. I've tried the tryout versions of the prosoft products, Symantec volume recover and apple disk utility. apple disk utility and prosoft's drive genius can see all three volumes, but can't repair them. the data on these volumes is worth quite a bit to my poor stupid, client who thought that he was "backing up" when he saved his important data to multiple volumes on the same physical disk.

anyone got anything? I just need to recover some files, I don't need to ever mount the volumes again.

PS, thanks for catching my omission

02:28 pm - Slow G4
I am using a G4 notebook (white) with Panther. I am using Photoshop 5.5 in OS 9 mode but the machine is too slow.

I don't know if that is because I have installed too many things or because the files I am working with are too big (4-6 MP photos) or becuase it is running under OS 9.

I wonder if PS CS runs any bette ron G4s.

I wish to know of a cheap way to get CS... I tried ordering from these sites that sell it for $100 saying it only lacks the manuals and "nice" packaging but seemed like a scam and I canceled the order. They reimbursed me, but I think they were working out of the USA.

Any ideas?

10:49 am - Backup apps?
Hey there, I'm new to this community. I switched to Mac about 2 years ago and have no plans to ever go back to PC- well, at least not for personal use, I can't avoid PCs at work...

Does anyone know of a good backup app?
Something like Retrospect but without the price tag?

06:25 pm - Messenger Plus by Patchou
Hi got my first mac today, just getting it setup and I've come across a minor problem. I use a bit of s/w called Messenger Plus on my XP box. Its a freeware add on for MSN Messenger, among other things it hides all those annoying adverts that flash up. Is there anything like it for Macs?

07:31 am - Preview
I was wondering was there anyway to bookmark or/and highlight pages in preview. I have a lot of ebooks that I read on my laptop and it would be nice if I could save my pages.
If I can't do that through preview, is there another mac ebook read that will?
They are all pdf's.

x posted in a few mac communities
